Here are a few FAQs about Cub Scout Pack 414 for interested new families:

1. How often do you meet? At the Tiger and Wolf level (1st and 2nd grades) most dens meet every other week. At the Bear and Webelo level (3rd, 4th, & 5th grades) most dens meet weekly. There is also a monthly Pack meeting on the third Tuessday of the month. We also have fun but mostly optional activities such as camping (3-4 times per year), Fall rocket launch, Spring Blue and Gold Banquet and Webelo II crossover into Boy Scouts at various times throughout the year. All activities are posted on our Pack calendar on ScoutTrack.com.

2. How much does it cost? New scouts joining in Aug/Sept pay a $10 prorated dues fee to Bay Area Council and a one-time $5 to receive Boys Life Magazine. Pack 414 dues of $75 per scout are due for new scouts by the October 15th Pack meeting and will help us pay for recharter dues to council and national BSA as well as help us reserve camping sites, speakers, rockets, derby cars, rent, awards and much more. New members are responsible for their own uniform, neckerchief and slide, and handbook. Next year’s neckerchief, slide and handbook are provided at the crossover in May.

3. Do I have to sell popcorn? We ask that every scout contribute to the financial stability of the Pack by joining in our annual fundraising event. Each scout is asked to sell $150 in popcorn or $200 for two or more cub scouts in the same family. This is quite doable if you are able to sign up for one of our table sales slots in front of area businesses and sign up to sell to relatives and friends online through trails-end.com. Our fundraiser is over October 15th and it is the only major fundraiser that we do all year. A silent auction and cake auction are also features of our Blue and Gold Banquet every February though baskets are supported by each den as a unit and the cake auction is voluntary. Boys who have started selling popcorn by the September Pack meeting get to pie the Cubmaster! And boys who sell over $250 by October’s Pack meeting get to pie the Cubmaster again!

4. Do we have to go camping? No, camping is not required but strongly encouraged for our younger scouts. Some families are able to come for the Saturday activities on a camping weekend but not stay overnight to fit with their busy schedule. During the Webelo year (4th and 5th grades) some requirements do occur on camping trips, so plan on attending at least two during that 18 month period.

5. Are siblings invited? Scouting is a family event and siblings and parents are invited on all camping trips as well as den meetings and field trips if needed. We just ask that if a sibling needs to come that a parent come as well.
